About the exhibition
The exhibition will offer a unique insight into the topics and perspectives of diploma theses from the fine arts and design studios at the Faculty of Fine Arts at VUT. These seemingly disparate fields are united not only by a natural gamble on luck, but above all by the ability to adapt to unpredictable situations in any ecosystem. At the same time, the graduate projects open up the potential for collaboration in all areas where sensitivity is a key driver of cultural, social, or technological development.
The works of Aneta Chalabalová, Katarína Marošiová, and Lukáš Vacek are part of the Moduly exhibition at the Brno City Gallery and are on display at Špilberk Castle from May 28 to July 27, 2025.
The exhibition is co-organized by the Brno House of Arts.

About the exhibition
We wish you the strength and support to fulfill your own wishes! Whether it’s marzipan rings, a carousel with swans, blowing out candles on a cake, a fountain full of wine with eight-meter-long drinking straws, relaxing in the forest, working for a non-profit organization, going to Indonesia to pick apples or getting a tattoo in Indonesia, working in a funeral home, pursuing artistic research, starting your own business, going on a work placement in Germany, opening a graphic design studio with friends, or starting to work in a corporation. We wish you whatever you wish for yourselves! We wish you strength and enthusiasm, health, love, understanding, support, closeness, joy, and sparkle.
The curatorial concept of this year’s graduate exhibition is defined by its openness to the individual needs and wishes of the graduates, their real and diverse applications both within and outside the art world. This will be followed by a support program for graduates focusing on the main issues they will face after graduation. The exhibition and its opening are conceived as a celebration of the completion of studies and the transition to the next phase of creative, career, and personal growth. Kateřina Olivová and Barbora Trnková

About the exhibition
Diploma exhibitions and catalogues are a specific genre of the art world. Every year, students and curators have to re-evaluate the meaningfulness of this format. They alternate between more invasive approaches (modifying the work of the learners for a higher impact of the exhibition as a whole) with approaches that let the diversity and specificity of individual works and disciplines shine through, but at the risk of inconsistent results. The presentation of FaVU BUT is even more specific in that it simultaneously presents the outputs of free and applied art.
For this year’s edition, we, as the curatorial team approached, decided to define this format as a service. A service leading to an inconspicuous, yet from our point of view important result. We don’t remix the works, we don’t come up with flashy architecture, nor do we try to wrap everything in the form of a charming joke or a community gesture. We look at the exhibition and catalogue in a very utilitarian way, seeking practical outcomes - tools that can serve students after they leave their alma mater.

LOST FOCUS - exhibition 2022
In the FFA cave, a new generation of artists attempts to describe fragmented reality through the search for answers to human, interpersonal and extra-human questions.
The transition out of the cave is connected to forces that pierce the world and introduce us to the aesthetics of the advertising world, imaginary democracy, fairy-tale dreams and hallucinations, humanistic sensitivity and relationships. Followers of the light hope to find a sense of gravity and orientation. At the same time, they dream of working with technology and natural hybrids, subculture and environmental issues. They are aware of self-ironic dependence, capable of conceptual jokes and sometimes dealing with the formal aspects of subjective aesthetics.
The graduate students’ works, which have been realized in different media, are reinterpreted after their defense. Through formal and conceptual methods, the SOP curator (Studio of Photography) uses “filters, distorting mirrors, reflections and flashes” for the graduate exhibition. The curatorial way of telling a story from various fragments of the graduates’ works is sometimes poetic, sometimes metaphorical, sometimes absurd and mystical to the point of being humorous. One could say that AFO’s curatorial synergy in the process has created an unexpected synthesis of ideas that is no longer sequenced into a single narrative. A new situation has emerged that can be called Lost Focus.
The concept of presenting the work of a graduate student is closely linked to frustration and solidarity. The result is a process focused on collaboration and better mutual knowledge.

About the exhibition
Representation is a concept of sign theory. Simply put, it is a certain relation between two entities - that which is represented, the representer, and that which is represented, the represented. It is common to understand works of art as signs whose meaning is subject to interpretation. If works of art represented nothing, they would be impossible to interpret, they would be about nothing, they would be empty, uninteresting. The basis for our participation in this year’s exhibition of FaVU graduates is the fact that it is a well-established showcase of all the diploma theses produced at the faculty in a given year. We give up the ambition to evaluate individual theses or to regroup them into new categories and to cover them thematically. The range of individual disciplines represented by studio affiliations and the diversity of approaches with an emphasis on freedom of expression also predicts the freedom of presentation of the most recent thesis.

About the exhibition
As designers, we do not want to create a false sense of care for individual graduates in the limited space allocated to us. Therefore, we are not creating a curatorial concept, but a service and infrastructure. A service, a web platform that will be populated by the female graduates themselves. It will survive the physical exhibitions, distributed around Brno in the form of temporary exhibition infrastructure, and we firmly believe that it will survive the graphic trends of the future.
The result is a database/exhibition in 7 locations/7 openings. The vernissages are distributed around Brno from 25 September to 30 September 2020. The exhibitions are open until 30 October 2020. Detailed program and locations of the vernissages, opening hours of the exhibitions and profiles of the graduating artists can be found on the website www.diplomantky.cz, where you are currently located.
