The work comprises a theoretical essay which explores the role of the dilettante in contemporary society, especially in the sphere of art/design. The author uses qualitative research and interviews with active dilettantes to better reflect his own position and the wider significance of dilettantism. The essay uses irony to subvert academic rules and muses on the role of education. It is a defense of dilettantism as a form of alternative.
