Where the View Reaches
Painting Studio 1
The work develops the themes of gaze and surveillance in the digital era. The gaze and its fascination are key motifs of these paintings that respond to the altered perception of the world in the digital age. Female figures in the artist’s own likeness are the central motif – they are in empty landscapes attempting to escape the gaze, while at other times they stare at one another or into places that the viewer cannot see, creating tension between what is visible and what lies beyond sight, between how we look and how we perceive ourselves.
